HLTH 2400: Literature Review
In this Literature Review, I conducted a comprehensive analysis of scientific literature to develop a socioecological model aimed at improving physical activity among Latinx adolescents. This thorough review aligns with the objectives set forth by the Healthy People 2030 initiative and draws on the Theory of Planned Behavior and Social Cognitive Theory to address the needs of this population in the United States. Based on the evidence gathered, I recommend a multilevel approach that includes implementing wellness policies in schools, securing funding for safe and accessible recreational facilities and equipment, educating parents about the importance of physical activity, and offering exercise classes for parent-child pairs to resonate with the Latinx cultural value of “familismo.”
HLTH 4700: A Holistic History of Mozambique
In this assignment, I explored the rich history of Mozambique as the first step in my semester-long project focusing on Goal 3 of the Sustainable Development Goals: Good Health and Well-being. In order to establish a strong foundation, it was crucial to understand the various components that determined the current state of health in Mozambique, such as historical wars, current events, prominent religions and languages, demographics, and policies. This project helped me learn how to perform an initial assessment and understanding of a community before implementing a health intervention.
